Will a disability insurance policy still pay if a current problem is a result of a accident that happened 1yr?

I was hurt at work a yr and a half ago but seemed to recover then over time my symptoms has gotton worse . I no longer have my policy in effect but since i was covered when the inital injury occured and i still covered. I have two doctors saying that my current problem is a result of that past injury

In order for you to claim disability benefits under this policy, your disability must begin while the policy is in force. If you were unable to work while the policy was in force, you should file a claim for this. If your disability (inability to work) happened after the policy lapsed, you do not have a valid claim. It does NOT pay, if it's not in force.
work comp should cover for on the job accident but disability is for sickness not accidents. But that's some thing you ask your insurance provider.
