Can an employers insurance company deny longterm disability insurance to a hearing impaired person?

My daughter is being denied longterm disability insurance at her place of employment because the insurance company stated her hearing impairment does not fall within their guidelines. I was under the impression this was in violation of the American with Disability Act. Any info provided is greatly appreciated.

It may preclude her hearing disability. They cannot deny coverage for her due to the hearing loss but they can consider it a pre-existing condition and not allow any coverage in regards to her hearing loss or subsequent issues that may arise. I would advise her to seek out her insurance benefit coordinator in her company and talk with them to get a straight answer. Good luck! Source(s): 15 + years in medicine; owner, med/legal service.
It very much depends on the state. Some states may consider impaired hearing a disability, some might not.
