Ballpark estimate of disability insurance premiums?

My husband's employer does not offer disability insurance and we are looking at getting a simple disability plan from our private insurer State Farm. I would just like to know roughly how much premiums are for this kind of dis. insurance. I've looked online, but you have to enter all kinds of personal information before any company (whether insurance or quote finder) will send you any info. Seems like putting a big sign on my email and screaming "SPAM ME!"

So just curious what other people pay for this. My husband is 28, non-smoking, not overweight, and is healthy. He's a high school teacher.

They will not send you any email. Call your local agent. They can give you a quote over the phone. It depends on how much you are looking for. $1000 a month, $4000 a month, $345 a month...

Give them a call.
I can tell you this much. We pay well over $600.00 a year to State Farm on my husband, although he is older than yours but also a non-smoker, not overweight, etc. Disability insurance is expensive no doubt. I am surprised as a teacher, the school does not offer some plan. Frankly, age and such does not matter as much when talking disability coverage, as in say, life insurance. You have a better chance of becoming disabled in your lifetime than dying young. It's a statstical fact. Some say disability insurance is more important than life insurance. Of course, you really need both.
It will vary heavily on how much of his income you want to protect and any other options. I know you said you want a "simple" plan, but I would generally advise against a policy that covers him only if he was totally disabled.

Something else, State Farm is a captive agency and will only be able to show you their plan.
Well, there are just a WAY LOT of variables. If I had to pull a number out of the hat, assuming your husband is in perfect health, no drinking or recreational drugs, etc, assuming he makes around $45K a year (because it's based on 70% of your wages, ya know?) with a cost of living increase, it would probably run about $1,500 to 2,000 a year.

He's much more likely to file a claim under disability, statistically, than life insurance; that's why it costs more. You'll need to contact your agent to get a REAL quote.
