SSI and Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance? |
In 1999 I applied for Social Security Disability. I was denied but approved for SSI. In February of this year(2007) I received a notice of award saying I was approved for Disabilty beginning June of 1999. I am very confused now and dont understand what happened. This year my SSi payments are $623 but my Disability says I will be getting $408. Will my SSI payments be cut off or reduced? If so by how much? I believe what will happen is that you will get the same amount of money but that instead of getting the whole amount of $623 in SSI you will not get $408 in SSDA and $215 in SSI. They may even send you back pay for the difference to June of 1999. Call or better yet go into your local Social Security office. You shoudl receive a lump sum payment from your approval date to now. SSI is based on income so yes it will decrease, btu I cant tell you by how much or if you wil even still get it. It took me several years to get mine approved as well but my payments are now about the same as yours. If you have children or a spouse make sure to call SS as they are entitled to a small amount as well. Not much, each of my children receives $66 a month but it helps a little. SSDI recipient it took me 21 years to finally get on SSI. i was born with different neurological problems that affect my learning. i have lost so many jobs because of it. the best thing to do is, get an SSI lawyer. i did, so that's how i got the award letter!!! but as far as starting in 1999, you will have a long battle. good luck!! www.ssa.gov |
