Can I qualify for Medicare? I'm not indigent (private disability insurance) but I am disabled.? |
I'm losing my insurance and I HAVE to have coverage!!! I wont make it a month with out perscription coverage. I can pay the premium but I NEED the coverage!! I don't think you can get Medicare, since you have that option of getting Cobra coverage through your previous employment. I know that Cobra is expensive, but it is better than having to pay for your doctor, prescriptions and possibly hospital bills, completely out of your pocket. Most Cobra plans allow you to carry coverage for 18 months. If you must continue carrying Cobra for longer than the 18 months, you must qualify for SSDI and the SS must fax a letter to your Cobra carrier stating that you have been qualified for SSDI and they will continue your Cobra coverage for another 11 months. Although your premiums will be much higher at that time for those 11 months. This letter must be received by your Cobra carrier before your insurance coverage is up. I know about this, because I am currently going through it. I am hoping my SSDI comes through before my Cobra runs out at the end of this month. My attorney said it should, but there is still a chance that it won't. Then, I will be up a creek without a paddle. Good luck to you! Also, as I understand it, you have to be disabled or out of work for 2 years in order to qualify for Medicare. On the anniversary of that 2 years, you can then qualify for Medicare. maybesocial security check You should qualify. just apply and if you don't they'll tell you. You don't have to be indigent to get Social Security Disability. However, you have a lot of Soc Sec paperwork,. letters from your doctors, a visit to the Soc Sec doctor (to determine if you are totally, permanently disabled), etc. If you are totally disabled, you can collect Social Security with Medicare. If you are simply low on funds, try your state dept of social services. (By the way, if you are able to work, you're out of luck on both counts.) I got mine after a serious accident in 1997 when I was way young...then Medicare started their Part D Rx coverage.....you will still have a co-pay. If you're losiong your insurance because of loss of job,. etc., you should still be able to maintain it for 18 months on the COBRA (conversion where you, not your employer) pay the premiums. Good luck! Hi, just thought I鈥檇 share there鈥檚 a company out there who鈥檚 helped a lot of people who do not have and need affordable health benefits. They cover regular office visits, specialists like orthodontists, any pre-existing conditions like diabetes and pregnancy and even ancillary care and hospital advocacy. It basically includes everything you need help paying for. There's no high premiums, deductibles, co-pays, waiting periods, claims forms or anything like that at all. They can save you up to 80% on your out of pocket expenses for so much less than all the other companies. It could end up saving you a lot of $$ over traditional insurance. They have a medical plan as well as a dental plan that both include vision, prescription and chiropractic benefits as well. They have over 400,000 providers nationwide as well, so it is available almost everywhere. They are a wonderful company and are members of the Better Business Bureau. They were even featured on FOX News just a couple weeks ago. I know several people who have benefits through them, and everything they say about them is nothing but positive. It鈥檚 just crazy how much people are shelling out for their healthcare. I then also got benefits through them and love to be able to tell other people about how much money they can save. Try this website and you can check out the specifics and providers in your area. http://www.everyonebenefits.com/40424269... If your preferred provider isn't on there, he can be added. I hope this helps you and you find what you need. You can email me personally at airforcecontractnegotiator@ yahoo .com (we're military) if you have any questions. Best of luck and happy new year!! |
