Do workers that have been on short term disability end up costing a company more in futuer insurance costs? Well, it's hard to cover everyone with the same blanket. . . . let's just say, SOME workers, that put in lots of workers comp and disability claims, continue to do so their entire lives. In my experience, you tend to see the same names cropping up over and over and over again on the claims reviews. . . . Source(s): AGent, 20+ years No! Yes. They will either have to pay ot or hire someone to fill your position, along with that persons benefits. If the business gets too many disability claims against it the Dept. of Labor & Industries will investigate and depending on what they find, it could cost the company money. It depends on the size of the company. A small company with numerous small (paid time off) accidents can cost the company with higher insurance percentages based on payroll.
