The market just topped 12000 today, what does it mean for new financial services associates just hired? |
I just started working for a large Insurance company that offers variable annuties and mutual funds. With the market topping 12000 does this mean good things for my career? I must admit, I don't follow this too much, but with the market at an all time high, it can't be good for individuals who make their living recommending and selling finacial services. When the market goes up, of course, the brokers are heros. When the market goes down, brokers are ZEROS. You are in at a stage, that while the market may go higher yet, be prepared, for it will soon fall, or "adjust". You may never get to be the hero before you are the ZERO. Fortunatly, you are in the insurance industry which is normally not affected quite so drastically, and as long as your company contiues to play it's claims, you'll be a HERO. You must have a degree and yet you ask this question which is obviously a smoke screen. It was the Dow which is in record territory. The more general market indices are not doing that well. But you can weave it into your baloney sales presentation. Annuities are rip offs. The mutual funds you will be selling are also rip offs. Your career depends on your ability to sell which is a measure of your ability to persuaded people to make the wrong decision more often. Work hard and you will make good money. No tickie no washy. Don't work hard and you will suffer like 90% of the financial advisors that are not financial advisors anymore. I''m sure there is a way to spin this 12000 on the Dow to the advantage of the insurance company. Your job is to make money for the company you work for whether the market is up or down. A salesman can always spin the market anyway he chooses. |
