I was wondering if there is any services that offer low income families financial help? I work for H&R Block and thats one of the things we do is help lower income familes. One thing you want to do is make sure you can claim head of the household, because you can recieve what is called the Earned Income Tax Credit, which is a non-refundable credit that can be as high as $4,000. If you go to any HR Block they have a brochure that talks about EVERY federal assistance program available. You may have to find a summer service center thats open all year and just ask for the Federal Assistance brouchure. Feel free to email me with any questions, im here to help jagerman4@yahoo.com. PS, thanks for answering my question earlier today. Depends on where you live and what type of finacial help you are looking for. There is always federal assistance like food stamps. Try your local Human Services Dept. Also, see if there is a St. Vincent de Paul Society in your area. Both have helped me before. I also found a local storehouse that you can at least get food boxes from and sometimes clothing. If it's a one time expense, try modestneeds.org. They are awesome! Well I'm not sure of where you live, but you may have a dept of social services office in your area, if you do they may be able to help you with getting things like food stamps and if you live someplace where it is cold they may be able to help with your gas or electric bill. I live in NY and here they help with all this plus health insurance. Also if you have children under the age of 5 you may qualify for WIC, with WIC you get eggs, cereal, cheese, milk, peanut butter, or if you have a baby you can also get formula and baby cereal. What i would suggest is maybe doing an internet search for WIC or food stamps in your area and you should be able to get telephone numbers to see how to apply in your area. Check with your local Department of Social Services. They will then direct you to the Local Health Department if your children qualify for medicaid. Medicaid would then cover dental, medical, visual. up to the age 18 or 21 in some cases. Social services is the best place to start. If you desperately need the help, that's what they are there for. CATHOLIC church sometimes helps out people. Yes you should go to social service because they can help you with medical bills, light bill , food, clothes, telephone and sometimes with cars. |
