How do you get financial aid if you never signed up for selective service? |
By age 18 every male is supposed to sign up for selective service registration or they will be ineligible for federal aid. I am older than 27, which means it is too late for me to sign up. How can I fix the problem? I went through the same problem. The ONLY thing you can do is what was suggested by molly. However, you will have to have a VERY good reason for not signing with SS for the school to help you. I dropped out of school at 16, and so I never heard anything about SS, so this helped me when I later returned to school in my early 30's. All you can do is try. Good Luck! Contact the financial aid office at your school. I believe you have answered your own question. This is what is best described as an incentive and it is also a law. It is likely you may be out of luck nevertheless it wouldn't hurt to contact your college or school counselor. Other then that, there is little else that can likely be done. |
