The $10 cigar tax to pay for socialized kid's health insurance? |
Congress is getting ready to consider putting a $10 dollar tax on cigars to pay for health insurance for minors who's family can't afford the expense. The price tag on cigars will probably cause a 75% reduction in the number of cigars purchased. Also it will hurt the economies of several Carribean countries. Also who will pick up the tab for the lost revenue when people quit buying cigars? Governor Bill Richardson tried this in New Mexico by adding 50 cents to the price of a pack of cigarrettes and smoking went down 30% now they're begging the Federal Government to pay for the health care system they started on unreal tax profits. I'm tired of everybody with their hand out to the government. If you cant afford to provide a life for a kid don't have one. Its not up to me or anyone else to take care of your offspring. Gov Richardson found out first hand what happens when you penalize the ones who are funding the programs. To you it makes common sense to see what the effect this way of thinking has changed anything for the better,trail and error. To them I think they act on how popular these decisions will make them within their circle, not in the real world.Until we elect people on the merit of how well they can benefit us all for the better we are stuck in the same old.I live in GB by the way but it is the same the world over. I think those that are given the privilege to be in government should be brought to justice for all the injustice they inflict. WHAT ABOUT ACCIDENT VICTIMS, WHO DID NOT KNOW THEY WOULD BECOME DISABLED WHEN THEY HAD THEIR CHILDREN, PARENTS WHO LOST THEIR CHILDREN AND ARE NOW HAVING TO RAISE THEIR GRANDCHILDREN ON A FIXED INCOME, PEOPLE WHO DEVELOPED DISABLEING ILLNESS' AND DISEASES AFTER THEY HAD THEIR CHILDREN, PEOPLE WHO HAD CHILDREN BORN WITH DISABILITIES. THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO NEED HELP, WHO ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE POSITION THEY ARE IN . No problem, they can tax booze next. I quit smoking & I don't drink so why not. How many people do you know that hit the bars on the weekend, I doubt very many people would quit drinking. They can say their getting wasted for the kids. The money has to come from somewhere, It's not like we pay enough taxes anyway right??? As a kid who grew up in a family that smoked, I have no problem with that. My life's activities have been seriously curtailed by the effects of second hand smoke. People who smoke think they have a right to poison the rest of us. They dont. And the effects of smoking on the workplace, productivity, absenteeism and the medical system are immeasurable. You want to smoke? Sure. Go ahead. But do not ruin our economy and endanger our health without some kind of sanctions. My father died from smoking. Our family DEFINITELY was not as profitable as it could have been without it. Smokers are extremely self centered. Trying to say it is a "right" is just plain stupid. I defy you to find a right in the Constitution that says you can smoke. So shut up, clear the air, and pay for the "right" to kill the rest of us. |
