Is the lack of health insurance for almost 50,000,000 Americans a topic for religious concern, or not?

Here's an article from USA today citing 2005 statistics. Indications are that the numbers of uninsured are still rising.

Most see a desperate need for health care. The concern of the religious is the health of all people.
Why is medical insurance a religious concern? Is medical insurance mandated or discouraged by Jesus?
This is a problem that's so obviously connected to the political and economic well-being of our country that it's not necessary to get religion involved. We can see the problem with our own eyes - why should you need to get God dragged into to it to get people off of their duffs?
If the religious actually care about other people like they claim they do, and like they claim their holy book says to do, it should be.
its not a religeous specific problem .. its an american problem ...
It certainly should be but very few religions are even attempting to address it.

I don't have a religion but if I did I would expect it to do everything possible to help humanity. How can people believe we are all god's creation and not do everything to help each other?
