Health Insurance(USA) How can we get the Government? |
to recognize the need for every American to have good health Insurance? This is a real problem for so many people!!! I think they're aware of it. What to do about it is another thing altogether. Republicans don't want to injure the insurance industry, stifle innovation, or restrict peoples' choices. Democrats don't want to be blamed for the failures of a new system, and there will be plenty. Many also have a fixation on "fairness," and will insist that those treatments that a national system couldn't afford not be legally available to those who can pay for them. Since that will be unfair to those of their constituents who have good insurance, they have a political problem. You'll also have to consider problems like this: I live in a small, poor, mostly rural state in which Medicaid is a budget buster, already taking up more of the state's budget than everything else (education, roads, etc.) combined. My personal opinion is that everybody should have first-dollar coverage for a very limited basic level of health care, funded federally. Additional insurance should be widely available and not restricted by concepts of societal fairness. I'd not want to be a politician deciding what's a minimum, basic level of care, though. You want health insurance? A. Move to Canada B. Get a job that covers your health insurance C. Join the Military NO FREEBIES!!!! No free insurance for anyone. Go out and pay for it, like everyone else does. Lobby your Senator/Congressman...on a more local level, contact your Mayor or Governor. People are so tired of the welfare system, it's hard to get anyone to notice the true need for healthcare for the uninsured. Everyone's too greedy! Vanderbilt Law School It is not the government's responsibility to make sure all people have health insurance. If you want to tackle this problem, start with the insane insurance doctor's have to pay so they are forced to charge high prices. If you want to fix the problem, fix the tort system that drives doctor insurance up. If you want to fix the problem, have the government create tax incentive for medical institution for providing free clinics and surgical procedures. You see, none of these things will happen, because the government receives a portion of all funds in the form of taxes, and when have you ever known a politician ever to create a system where he removes himself from the picture. i hear the privileged whining. i got mine, you get yours. kids and older adults, sometimes fall thru the cracks. i don't propose giving medical care to the lazy or drug addicted. but there are people who deserve some help. set the standards, rules, etc. i don't see it as an absolute. |
