I don't have health insurance, would a health department help me with this issue? |
I have been having really long periods. Mainly just spotting, but it goes on for a month or more. I cannot afford to go to the doctor yet, my husband switched jobs and our health insurance hasn't kicked in. Could I go to the health department? Planned Parenthood prices their services on a sliding scale, that is, if you're poor you don't have to pay. There should be a PP or some kind of clinic in all major cities but you may have a hard time in a rural area. Just look in the phone book or on the internet and you should find something. Call ahead and ask about fees. yes. most offer free or almost free exams and pap smears. the results are read by a lab and are just as reliable. Yes, call them and explain your problem. Some areas have rules and they may require some documentation for it to be free or on a sliding scale determined by your income. So, call tomorrow. Don't wait. You want to get in and seen and taken care of before you have to pay right? Call and get it done. You might just need some medication to regulate you, maybe birth control or you might need a D and C. Don't put it off any longer you can be anemic too. Medical education and experience. You can always go to the clinic for any health issues. You just have to find out what their policy is for seeing people (some require that you line up early in the morning, some make you wait all day, just call them and be prepared to wait when you get there!)
