My husband is 57 and diabetic. If I lose my health insurance at work what should I buy to replace it?

We live in Massachusetts but are thinking of moving to Florida so I will lose my job sponsored coverage. Cobra will be over $1000 per month but we need it, especially the prescription drug coverage.

I would look into this very closely before you make that move.

Most insurance companies will not cover ANYTHING for a pre-existing condition. Period.

My daughter is having the same issues with her heart condition and degrading kidneys.

Could you not talk to your company's current insurance carrier, and see if they would allow you to transfer your coverage to a private account when you leave your employment? It is worth the time to ask anyway.
If your husband is a Veteran he should look into the VA health care system. If he could get into that then you could just buy a policy for yourself and maby it wouldn't cost as much as the Cobra.
The only thing you can do is to shop around for different insurance plans. Takes a ton of time, but in the end will be the best for you. Get in touch with a bunch of different insurance companies and ask them to send you all the info they can...then comes the hard part, which is deciding who to go with. There are so many different plans so be careful when comparing - such as an HMO usually will not pay if you're out of network, etc. etc.
I use health benefits. It's not the exact same as insurance, but really close. It was cheaper for me and all preexisting is covered. For me it's $50 for dental, vision, prescription, chiropractic, doctor, specialist, and ancillary. So, I love it. The website I went to is below. Click on the medical to the left side. Best of Luck.
