I had to go to the Emergency room.. without any Health Insurance....? |
Before I was treated It old the hospital that I do not have health insurance... They said they would offer financial aid.. I was in alot of pain and didnt think of asking. What does that mean? Would they do some kind of check to see how much I get paid?? and offer me to pay a certain amount??? Im a full-time college student and I work part-time.. any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!! First, they cannot refuse treatment! Second, they have several different programs in most hospitals, you should receive information on them when they send you a bill. There should be a telephone # for their billing center and if you call that # they will be able to help you with all the different programs that could help you. Generally they would do it on a sliding scale. This means they will look at what you make and determine how much you could pay for the services. they willa ask you for copies of your check stubs. if you are a full time student and do not get help from our parens then you may qualify for medical assistance through your local dept of family and childrens services. MEDICAID. check into it I'm not really sure what that means in their terms, but if you call the billing department and explain the situation and what was told to you, I'm sure they can clear it up. Hospitals never have a "set" amount for anyone to pay; they are flexible with balances and payments. If you can only affort $10 a month, tell them that. Don't worry yourself silly over this, ok? And find out where the infirmary is at your school. Godloveya. retired nurse Sad to say, but you wouldn't be having this problem if you were an illegal!! The hospital is going to look at it like anything else you would buy, as if you had purchased an appliance or a car. The hospital should be able to work out a payment plan with you and might negotiate down the full fee. They might also know of charitable organizations that might provide assistance. Talk with them and tell them about your situation; you might bluntly state that you make about this much a month and spend about this much a month and have little to nothing left over. To protect yourself physically and financially, see if your school offers health insurance. It should be about the least expensive you can get. If the school doesn鈥檛 offer insurance, you might look into health insurance through your parents. If those options don鈥檛 work out, try MostChoice.com. You can compare locally available health plans and speak to local area insurance agents without any obligation. You can find MostChoice here: http://www.mostchoice.com/health-insuran...
