Please help***Where can i find out whether i will lose health insurance if i take a semester off from college? |
I live in georgia. I just want to take one semester off. I cannot afford to lose my health insurance, though. Does anyone know where to find this information? Do a search for the school you are attending. The school should have more information on the terms and conditions of the university health insurance. Usually the health insurance is billed every semester, and the spring semester covers you through summer regardless of whether or not you attend during summer. If you are planning on taking off the fall semester, you are probably going to lose the insurance for fall. If you are taking off the summer semester, then there isn't anything to worry about because a lot of people don't take classes during the summer and are still covered.. You have to contact your insurance agency and ask. Contact whoever is insuring you. If it's done through the school, contact them. If it's done through a private company, contact them. If it's done through your parents' employers, contact them. You only lose your health insurance for the time you are not in school if you are over 18 and on your parents' policy. If you plan on going back to school, then just try not to get sick while you are taking time off. If you're 18 and not over 22 yrs old, full time student and under your parents insurance, I don't think so. But if your over 22 yrs. old, have your own insurance or paying it yourself, contact your agent. At the college if you have insurance through them, you must inquire through the proper channels to make sure the coverage you have will not cease. I believe that each semester is different and you have to reinstate the insurance, then again, I think I read it is through ou the year. Contact the enrollment office and they will direct you where to go. Do it soon before the school gets out this semester. |
