How long do you have to add your wife unto your health insurance plan with your employer?

How long do you have to add your wife unto your health insurance plan with your employer?

both of the previous answers are correct, so I'll combine and go for the points.

You usually do have 30 days to add a new member of the family, but you need to review your plan documents (or call your insurance plan) to be sure.

Until you add her, though, the plan will not know she exists and any claims submitted for her will be marked as "unknown member". Some companies do not even record these claims in their systems, but mail the claim back to the provider. Your doctor will then have 'proof' that she isn't covered and will start billing you.

If you are too late, you will have to wait until the next open enrollment period (yes, usually Dec/Jan but could be any time of the year, so call to find out).

Congratulations!!
You normally have a 30 day open enrollment period. After that, you can't make any changes until the next open enrollment period which is probably in December or January.
Do it immediately!

If her name is not in the files anywhere, and the paperwork has not been completed, no coverage exists. (This is not like car insurance where you have a grace period when you buy a new vehicle)
