Does anyone know of any programs that assitst college students w/o health insurance with medical bills? |
I recently had to go to the emergency room and now my bill is over $7500.00. I'm looking for a 'chairity' like program that assists college students with no medical insurance. When you don鈥檛 have money to get the care you need: http://www.thefrugallife.com/medicalalte... Where can I go to get free or reduced-cost prenatal care? You can call this number if you need free birth control help, too! Women in every state can get help to pay for medical care during their pregnancies. This prenatal care can help you have a healthy baby. Every state in the United States has a program to help. Programs give medical care, information, advice and other services important for a healthy pregnancy. To find out about the program in your state: 路Call 1-800-311-BABY (1-800-311-2229) This toll-free telephone number will connect you to the Health Department in your area code 路For information in Spanish, call 1-800-504-7081 路Call or contact your local Health Department. I'd see about applying for DSHS medical (if you're in the US). Their qualifications are less stringent if you have excessive medical bills within the past 3 months. I know my university offers student health insurance (you opt in or out at registration), but it's not free. I have insurance through my employer, so I've never looked to see what it costs. DSHS is your best bet though. I would imagine they can help you out. have you tried your medical assistance office in your county. most people dont like to apply for assistance because they dont want to be called a person on welfare but this is what it is for. I don't know about any emergency type facilities but I do know that Florida Health Clinics are need based organizations. If you do not have income you do not have to pay. You might qualify for Medicaid. You can find out by looking up your local Medicaid office on the internet. Check with your school. My parents coverage does not cover me as a college student attending outside of my parents home state, so my dad and I checked around and found out through the school about a program that gets drugs and some treatment discounted. I got my eyelid split open playing basketball 2 months ago, and the discount from the program my school recommended cut my bill down to almost nil. You may be eligible for Medicaid while you're a student. As far as prior bills, most hospitals have programs to assist those who cannot afford their hospital bills. Contact the Patient Accounts Department and ask about their "Free Bed" qualifications. |
