I'm a single Mom of 3 with serious back problems, no health insurance, any suggestions?

I have had back problems for several years, herniated discs, scoliosis, vertebral spurs, degenerative arthritis, all causing much pain, muscle spasms and leg swelling. I've only been able to see a family physician now and then when the budget allowed, and the best he could do was some pain meds, then referred me to a pain management specialist which I cannnot afford. I'm one of those Americans who slipped through the cracks. Been working and raising my children alone for 13 years, can't afford health insurance, was laid off from work several months ago and even using unemployment benefit wages which are about 60% of what I used to earn, I do not qualify for medicaid. At $1096. a month I am told I make "far too much" for a family of 4, go figure. I've looked for things like clinical studies, haven't found any in Palm Beach County and other medical problems I believe may exclude me anyway. I have a good 20 more yrs in the work force ahead of me and have to be able to work, any ideas ?

You may qualify for disability, especially considering that you have a history of scoliosis. On disability, you qualify for Medicare, and can possibly get SSI for the children as well.

If you decide to apply for disability, your family physician can provide the information needed to prove that you have chronic back problems. It is a very tedious process and almost everyone gets denied on their first application, but KEEP TRYING.

Also, if your physician is prescribing medications that you can not afford, contact the manufacturer. Many pharmaceutical companies have programs for people who are low income that provide low cost or free medications.

Hope this helps.
you should try wearing a corset. they can help support your back if your back muscles aren't strong enough to begin with^^

LOOK YOU HAVE MY PRAYERS ITS THE ONLY THING THAT HELP ME GET BETTER
you should apply for social security disability. contact your local social security office or go online to ssa.gov to apply for benefits through them. then you might qualify for medicaid with a spenddown. as far as the no health insurance, aren't there any free or low cost clinics where you are at??
I don't know about your area, but lots of places have "Good Samaritan" clinics that do everything free of charge, for those of us who "slip between the cracks." You might be able to find out from somewhere like the welfare office.
