My husband was in the hospital for 2wks. We do not have health insurance & the total $bill is super high!? |
It is too much money. Are there any payment plans/write-offs to reduce the total amount?? If anyone has had this problem, is there any advise you can provide. Any help is appreciated. Apply for aid through your State Medicade office. http://www.hospitalvictims.com/... http://www.freedomdebtrelief.com/medical... Well, don't complain, you live in the Greatest Country in the World...Let that fact be your salve during this time......God Bless America....and God Bless George W Bush.....saving America...one Iraqi civilian at a time..... Call the hospital and ask if the social worker can meet with you to see if you can qualify for any assistance programs. Then call the business office to see if the amount can be lowered and payments arranged. These days most hospitals will work with you. Have a nice Christmas I'm happy you have each other. I know in my state (Cali) that there is an alcohol and tobacco tax fund that helps people pay for these kinds of bills, but if you do not ask specifically for it, they will not volunteer the info. Not knowing your state and financial ability to pay it is hard to say, but I know that you have to ask, ask, ask !!! And hopefully you will be pointed in the right direction. Good Luck. Have you spoken to the billing dept at the hospital as to whether they would take payments. There was a time that they would accept payments without interest because it was for medical, its possible like anything these days they've changed the rules, but I'd start there first, since its probably something they deal with often these days ... I'm sure they would know where people go for assistance, just try to find a sympathetic ear. It would have been helpful for before the hospitalization but for uninsured people there are some discount plans or cards you can buy pretty cheaply that entitle you to a big discount on medical care, including hospitalization. You would have had to pay for the card, but then your bill would be discounted according to the pre-negotiated agreement the card company had with the hospital. It's too late for that now. You should call the billing department and tell them you want to make payments, but you'd like to see if they would be willing to give you a discount in exchange for you starting to make payments right away. They will likely give you some break on the payment if you can prove to them that you can't afford the entire bill. I would hope you would become an advocate for health insurance, I am not sure how old your husband is but I am 44 years of age and pay $89.00 per month for a Blue Cross HSA plan that will cover my medical costs to 5million bucks. I gladly pay it every month, a friend of mine ended up loosing his home because he never signed up and needed a surgery. |
