I was wondering.. if I became a bartender, would I have benefits like health insurance? According to law, any company that has employees that work at least 40 hours a week is required to offer health insurance to ALL their employees. However, that does not mean that they have to PAY for it. Because of that, a privately owned company will not have enough employees to have a decent benefits package at a reasonable price. In a chain restaurant, you will have access to a better package, but you're not going to make the money you would at a private place. If you are in a situation where you need health insurance, don't go into the restaurant business. And if you're to make it a career, expect a lot of hard work until you get to the point where you can become a partner in a private restaurant. But if you're looking for a short term, fun and exciting time with some crazy people, go for it! And most of all, if you're uncomfortable working somewhere, don't stay... for any reason. So the answer is "yes" it's possible, but "no" it's unlikely. Worked for years in bars. Generally not, most of your money will probally come from tips also, but then If your cute and personable, and a good bartender you can make some pretty good money. If you work full time for a reputable company you will have health insurance. |
