If you are not in a group plan - and if you are not a man of great wealth -- you may find that "affordable" and "health insurance" do not travel in the same flock. if your income are lower to certain point, you can get health insurance at low cost or free. i work in healthfirst. what state do you live in 'Affordable health insurance' doesn't exist. You will be lucky to get any health insurance. If you can find a company that will sell you a policy, get one with a high dedcutible ($2000 or more) and set up a Medical Savings Account. Best wishes. It depends on where you live. However, a good place to start is Anthem. They have several individual plans. My premium is $360 per month for a family of 5 (and I am a higher risk due to high blood pressure, cholesterol, and prior injuries). In addition, I have a $4,800 deductible that is paid into / through a HSA. The maximum I may pay on this plan is less than the premium I was paying on COBRA for similar coverage. That is a very difficult, if not impossible thing to find. You might consider self insuring yourself. That means if you could find health insurance for 400 dollars a month, instead of paying for the insurance, put the 400 dollars every month in a special bank account, and use that money just for your medical expenses. With the price of health insurance, this might be a very viable option. I know quite a few people who are doing this, and it is working out for them, very well. |
