How much does it cost to see a fertility doctor and is it covered by health insurance? |
How much does it cost to see a fertility doctor and is it covered by health insurance? The first visit is about the same as any Dr. visit. My insurance doesn't cover fertility treatments. I have heard some insurances do but I have never heard a name of one. Even though treatments arn't covered my insurance pays for my monthly exams because this isn't considered a fertility treatment. I take the fertility drug clomid it costs about $80 a month. Then my copay for a office visit. To find out why I wasn't getting pregnant was covered 100% because this wasn't considered a fertility treatment either. The best thing to do would be to call a fertility Dr. in your area and ask how much a consultation would cost. Also contact your insurance company to find out what they cover. If the consultation is in your price range make an app. the office will be able to tell you more of a price range for the treatment you may need. Good Luck! Insurance plans vary widely in terms of how much infertility treatment they cover, or if they cover it at all. If you're lucky enough to have insurance that DOES cover it, you can count on having hefty co-pays, for both drugs and treatments/procedures. A course of IVF can cost $20-30K. Most health insurances do not conver fertilty treatments. And if they do, the copays are insane. The meds are expensive also, and not normally covered. Fertility is an expensive thing. It's unfair though. You can contact yours to find out what their stand on it is. Good luck!!!! A close friend of mine spent almost $30,000 on treatments. Gave up trying and got pregnant within 2 months. You never know. for my consultation, I only pd my copayment...but any further testing or meds would've been out of pocket. Clomid can be $5-7 per pill, IUI can be over $1000 my insurance paid for mine all i had to pay was the regular co pay it even covered fertility medicine but it would not cover like artificial insemination it would pay for every thing but the actual procedure i have blue cross and blue shield all you have to do is call your insurance carry they will tell you what they will cover good luck p.s my consultation with my fertility specialist was around $200.00 for an hour but he also did a ultra sound which was included in the $200.00 i think i had to pay like$30.00 which wasn't bad |
