If i am just taking a semester off of school is there anyway to get around being dropped from health insurance If you're above the maximum age for dependents who aren't in school full-time, then you will be dropped as soon as the insurer confirms you're no longer eligible. Something to keep in mind: in order to re-enroll, you have to be at or under the maximum age for NEW dependents. In other words, you'll have to re-qualify. Most contracts state NEW dependents must be age 18 or below. So if you're above the qualifying age, you won't be able to re-enroll. It's a HUGE misconception (including right here on YA Insurance) that you can re-enroll once you've started school full-time again. Find a full-time job with benefits and you'll be eligible for insurance. You could also buy health insurance. I take it you've been on your parents' policy? If you're over the age of 18, then not in most states. But you can get a short-term health insurance policy. As long as you don't have any pre-existing conditions, that should work out fine for you. If you have any pre-existing conditions, you'll probably have to buy a spin-off policy from the parents' insurance company. Quote short-term medical: http://larryblankenship.mymedicalquotes.... If you do not meet the criteria established by your parents' health insurance company, then the answer is "NO." You cannot avoid being dropped. I would suggest that you look for your own individual coverage or find a job that offers coverage. When you return to school full-time, you will be eligible for coverage under your parents' plan again Get a job with an employer that provides health insurance. You can't stay on your PARENT'S policy if you're over 18 and not a full time student. agent, 21+ years |
