When you get a new job, will their insurance/health care pay for pre-existing sicknesses(See more in details)? |
I'm looking for a job, but I need one that can cover my medications for my heart (I had a heart attack). Will they cover it? Please also leave ur e-mail just in case I have another respone for you, THANK YOU!!! Not usually. A lot of it depends on how long ago it happened. If you leave your old job, you have the right to elect the COBRA coverage (if you choose it within 60 days of leaving). It will cover you for up to 18 months, but you have to pay the full premium. Usually most employers pay about 60-80% or more of the premium when you are their employee and under COBRA you get the same group coverage but you now have to pay the full premium, which represents a 400-500% increase over what you were paying when you were employed. Since you've already had a major health problem, you are likely going to have to go into your state's high risk pool and that is going to be very expensive with low quality benefits. Check with the Human Services Department of your state to find out details on your state's high risk pool. If you can't get into that, you may have to try public assistance. Generally any new employer's health plan is going to exclude pre-existing conditions. Well, markmywordz is partially right. I stress partially. It depends on your insurer's contract with the employer. But, typically (I also stress typically) how this works is this: if you can present a creditable certificate of coverage for the previous 12 months, with a gap in insurance NO LONGER than 60 days, you'd be covered (meaning there is no exclusion for preexisting conditions). Again, this is typical. Group contracts rarely have preexisting clauses absent of these circumstances. If you have not been insured for a while and did not elect COBRA continuing coverage from your last employer, you may possibly be held to an exclusion for 12-18 months. I was an insurance agent. I don't want to put my email address in here, but you can click my name and hit 'contact Girl360' through Y!A and I'll be glad to help you with any other questions you have. |
