What is the best way to set up health care insurance for employees located in multiple states? The best available option, IMHO, is BlueCross BlueShield. With their BlueCard program, your employees will have coverage in all 50 states, and are eliglbe for coverage if they are travelling internationally. Source(s): http://www.bcbs.org/healthtravel/index.h... United Health Care, Aetna, and CIGNA also offer nationwide networks. All 4 companies will take a census of your EEs and do a geoaccess match. It will tell you which networks will meet the most amount of your employee's needs. In my experience, working with these nationwide networks, you are normally on a self insured network (vs pure insurance). If you do not want to do self insurance (or are too small), you can look into fully insured plans in each location, but it is a lot more to administer (but there is no insurance 'risk' for the employer). If you are unsure what to do, you should probably hire a broker to assist you. I work for a large company and we use a broker too. We are very pleased with Mercer. Many times, brokers are paid by the insurance companies premiums and not an outright payment from the company purchasing the insurance. Modified 11 months ago |
