Do you have to pay when you go to the health department for testing or do you use your insurance?

Do you have to pay when you go to the health department for testing or do you use your insurance?

It depends on the test. If there is an outbreak, such as shigella, and you have symptoms you can probably submit a sample without paying. If it's just you, such as you're concerned about an STD, need a pap, etc you will probably have to pay and you should be able to get a receipt to submit to your insurance. It depends on your income, and state/county policy, etc. Some health departments will bill Medicare if you're on that. Source(s): I work at Public Health in Wy.
