Health Care Insurances Won't Pay For Ambulance?

There is a special insurance just for ambulance. They told that health care insurances don't pay everything when you need an ambulance. If you have a skiing accident and a helicopter is necessary to bring you to the hospital, it will cost at least $ 12.000. And if my grandpa has heart attack symptoms and I call 911 the insurance won't pay if he had not a real heart attack. It's impossible to know if you have a real heart attack when you have life threatening symptoms. Is it true that Blue Cross and other health care insurances won't pay for the ambulance if you had a fake heart attack?

Since you are talking about your grandpa, I would assume he is old enough to be on Medicare with a secondary insurance such as 65 special. I dont know who told you about a special insurance for ambulances but Medicare does cover ambulance rides for emergencies and there is no way you can tell whether it is a real heart attack or something else. Call the Medicare number on the back of his card and they can explain their coverage or go online under Medicare.org and there should be a question and answer area - if he only has blue shield- call the number and do the same.
I am not exactly sure, but that doesn't sound right. I know federally funded insurance such as Medicaid or Medicare usually will not pay for an ambulance but I would assume that Blue Cross would! Good Luck finding out, you could always just call the insurance Co. and ask.
I don't know for sure but thats totally gay if they wont
Most insurance plans, such as those funded by the US government (Medicare) will pay for transport by ambulance. HMOs and other insurance plans may not pay the entire charge but will pay for some. If you are injured in a rock climbing accident or something similar that requires the mountain rescue team to come and get you, you might get billed by the mountain rescue team if you created the hazard in some way by your own actions.
I have never heard of an ambulance ride not being covered by insurance... I worked with a guy that worked for an ambulance service and if the person couldnt pay for the ride then they are put on public aid and they pay for it... that might be just in our area im not sure...but its worth a phone call!!!
Read the FINE LINES....get the summary of benefits and ask questions!!!! There are a lot more things that insurance does not cover that I am surprised you did not ask....and guess what, next year you might find more things cut....the solution...get the book "Healthcare for Less" and learn how to choose an insurance, decipher Medicare, and how to negotiate with your doctor...this book was so helpful that I have recommended it to all my friends......go to www.healthcareforless.us and click on "buy a book" you will see the reviews of other people that have read it....and that is why I bought it...and it works!!!! Good luck!
