I've never had health insurance, fighting pre-existing, what can I do? |
I have never had health insurance, partly because I have never ever had any, and I mean ANY health problems. I realize that this was irresponsible on my part. I started having problems right after I was hired into this company, and lo and behold, have been diagnosed with uterine cancer. I've never had symptoms, or medical care, and they won't cover any expenses. What can I do? Wait one second, did you have the uterine cancer when you enrolled in the insurance plan? That would make it pre-existing, if you were just diagnosed with the disease, they can't consider it pre-existing. I would do a little fighting with their representatives and your doctor's and make the case that this wasn't pre-existing, if it truly wasn't. If it was, then unfortunately, you will be responsible for all the charges. It will be unlikely that you find a reasonably priced insurance that will cover your costs. Good luck. Work out a payment plan with the hospital. You're NOT going to find an insurance company to take this on for $500 a month. That's just like going to the bookie and wanting to place a bet AFTER the race is run. Yes, it stinks. Yes, you need care. Yes, it's going to be expensive, and yes, you're going to be paying for it a long, long, long time. So tell everyone you know, to get their health insurance BEFORE problems crop up. Meanwhile, get on your group plan with your new employer ASAP. They're going to exclude THIS preexisting condition. But if something ELSE happens, it will be covered. Don't make the same mistake twice. agent, 21+ years HR girl is right. If you weren't treated or diagnosed with the cancer prior to your insurance effective date, its not a 'pre-existing condition'. The doctor's who are treating you have to send paper work to your insurance company confirming the dates you were seen in their offices & the date your diagnosis was confirmed. It'll be a long road, but you should be covered for everything as long as your doctors are sending in your records & responding to your carrier's questions. good luck wk in insurance 10+ yrs |
