Will my health insurance cover anything Cosmetic related? |
I have Blue Shield PPO, and was wondering if anyone has had experience dealing with them when it comes to cosmetic surgery. Do they cover all or some of the cost? I know I can always call and ask my provider, but I just wanted to get some feedback from others who have dealt with this. Thank You! Insurance will not cover run of the mill surgery to improve your appearance. Only exclusions would be if you could prove a procedure needed to be done to improve physical health or mental health following traumatic injury/surgery. Examples: eyelid surgery would be covered if they droop so badly they interfere with vision, breast reduction may be covered if you can ascertain large breasts are causing back and neck aches, breast implants might be covered following a mastectomy. Usually insurance companies do not cover cosmetic surgeries unless it's due to an accident. A woman may get breast reduction surgery sometimes if she can prove her breasts are causing her other medical problems such as severe back pain. Since you weren't specific in what you wanted done, it would be best if you called and find out exactly what you need to know. There are numerous plans with every insurance company so one person might have coverage where you don't. In most cases it's not covered. but ask ur insurance co. for details. Unfortunately no. But some surgeons will give you a discount if you pay cash, pay upfront etc. Ask them to give you their best price! |
