Is MassHealth considered health insurance?


I was asked this earlier by someone in conversation and I'm not sure if a person on MassHealth can say, "yes, I have health insurance".

Yes, MassHealth is considered health insurance. It is a health insurance that is geared to those individuals who need good health insurance but can't afford it.

MassHealth has expanded its' services to eligible members. For instance, adults are now covered for most dental work, vision-related services, etc. Source(s): I am a paralegal who provides pro bono services. I've had a few cases where people needed MassHealth coverage yet were initially denied benefits.
