Can an employer cancel my health insurance immediately? |
I am an independent truck driver who works for a small company.I pay for my own health insurance thru my employer. The day my truck broke down he immediately canceled my health insurance. Can he do that? Being independent tells me you have no contracted benefits. In such a case, any benefits you receive from your employer are at his/their discretion! Sorry :-(= Yes..they have every right to. Most eomployer make you work a certain amount of hours a week to maintain full-time status for health insurance purposes. Look it up...it is legal. yeah, I actually got mine cancelled retroactively. I transfered to another city and then the new city decided they didn't want me about 2 weeks later, but I'd never worked for them yet. (I was not working for that 2 weeks while they decided) I went to the dentist, they made the call and verified that I was covered, then when my store never picked me up, the insurance was dropped to the last date I'd worked, so the dentist visit wasn't covered. I think they are supposed to offer you something called COBRA that allows you to pay for your own coverage for a while until you can get new coverage. Check into it, I don't know if that is just a WA thing, or if it is national. Yes. He can. But, you have rights to a COBRA policy. Contact the insurance company ASAP. |
