Where do you go for health care if you have no insurance? |
My throat seriously started hurting on Saturday. Two days later, I still have fever, chills, sore throat, and the tell-tale markings on my tonsils of strep. Which means I need prescription medicine. Unfortunately, my husband and I hit severely hard times about 5 months ago. We're mostly caught up now, but one thing we still don't have is health insurance. So, we make just a little bit too much money to qualify for federal aid, yet paying out-of-pocket for a whole doctor's visit will set us back another month or two. What should I do? I can't miss work for the two weeks that it will take me to recover on my own. Where do I go? Well one of the best places to go if you don't have insurance is a urgnet care walk-in clinic. I don't knwo how they work where you are but it is kind of a "doc in the box". For relatively simple ailments or injuries such as possible strep. They are the most inexpensive of them out there. Source(s): Haveing been there. anywhere that's the great thing about the us you cant be refuse medical treatment but you will be charged also see if you city has a free clinic go to a county health place. they offer services at a very low charge for people without insurance or much money. good luck. You can try a local clinic. Although they usually do not see walk-ins. It normally takes weeks to get an appointment at least in NY. There are walk-in doctor offices who charge on a sliding scale. Also, and unfortunatly there is the ER. Do not feel bad about having to walk into the ER. Many people have no choice but to use the ER in this manner because of the lack of goverment control/cooperation with insurance and health care. Ask for a case worker so you can discuss your situation and billing for the ER visit. Good luck. There are a variety of free clinics, try to look up one in your community. Otherwise, county hospitals will treat anyone regardless of insurance status, so you could always visit their ER for an evaluation. i've had strep throat lots of times, without getting it treated, because my parents didn't have insurance, or just wanted to see me suffer (not sure which), and i turned out fine :) sometimes you have to bear down and take what life hands you. I would not risk going bankrupt over strep throat. If you break a bone or heaven forbid, something worse, then you've go no choice. |
