Daughter graduating from college. Any suggestions on healthcare insurance until she gets a job with insurance.

Daughter graduating from college. Any suggestions on healthcare insurance until she gets a job with insurance.

If she just graduated college she should be able to walk into a job with benefits. Unless there is a reason that she absolutely has to have insurance this very second, I would go without for 2-3 months. Trying to get health insurance on your own is very expensive, it usually won't cover any condition you have that you have seen a doctor for in the past year, and it has such high deductibles that she would have to pay everything out of pocket, anyway. There is also a lot of help available to people without health insurance. I get some help through the State of Colorado right now, and my expenses are less than my wife's, who HAS insurance. If she is going to be a long time without insurance, I would call an insurance broker that can show you numerous policies with numerous companies, but if she is looking for a job and is in good health I would just put off her next checkup until she gets a job.
after i graduated college i got something thru blue cross/blue shield. it was a cheapy package that didnt cost but $50-75 and only covered me going to emergency room with accidents or such
She should qualify for Cobra thru the company that currently covers her. As long as she is fairly healthy you should be able to find a decent rate. Start calling around. Good Luck and Congratulations, you must have done a great job raising her.
HAP is always good been on it since my dad put me on it.
Check with the school. A lot of times the college has some kind of plan for recent graduates that isn't too costly. My parents' insurance covered me until I got my first job, so I was pretty fortunate.
This is why I am for public healthcare. I went without insurance of a long time and many of my college-graduate friends went through the same thing.
Several companies offer short term health insurance. When I got out of college, my alumni association offered it for around $75. I've also used Blue Cross Blue Shield and Assurant. My State Farm agent actually directed me toward Assurant, so maybe check with you insurance agent. Like the previous poster said, it pretty much just covers emergencies. She can get something more extensive, but it will cost considerably more.
