Does a homeowner have to have homeowners insurance before they can rent their home out? |
if you own a home and want to rent it out ...is it required by law that the home be covered by homeowners insurance? No, it's not required, but it's really, really important unless you have the funds in the bank for someone to sue you if they fall or if someone leaves an unattended candle lit. Renters insurance carried by just the renter will only cover the renter's belongings, it will not cover your home. Source(s): www.teammandich.com for more information I think you do only if you still have a mortgage. If you don't, then I think you can do whatever you want with it. your homeowners won't cover their personal belongings, but if you have it furnished you will want more than liability. You want some even if you don't have a mortgage in case someone falls, storm, fire etc. experience If you still owe on a mortgage then yes, however, I would highly advise homeowners insurance when you have renters living in your house because this will cover for many of the expenses that are caused from renting such as broken doors or walls, the need for new carpets, if a person gets hurt while on your property. etc you always have to ,they will never give you a loan otherwise ,maybe if the property is paid off you might get away with it |
