Does homeowner's insurance cover essential consumer goods theft?

Theft is covered under homeowner's ins but I also think there is a dollar limit on computers. Source(s): I used to work for an insurance company
Some do, some don't. You will just have to call your insurance company and ask. Some companies require add-ons to your policy that cost extra money to cover things like laptops, desktops, stereos, etc.
Usually if it's portable electronics, there is a limitation of theft coverage. Additionally, there are limitations for property used in the course of your business, and property away from your premises.

Also, keep in mind - mysterious disappearance is NOT the same as theft. Leaving the laptop on the park bench and coming back two hours later is PRESUMED theft, or mysterious disappearance, NOT theft.

Lastly, some homeowners policies exclude theft altogether - although it is covered under the STANDARD HO3 policy.
