Does homeowner's insurance generally cover items in childrens' dorm rooms?

My policy deals with it the same way that it deals with items left in the car. But there is a limit to how much is covered. The alternative is a renters policy that costs about $17/year. We went that route with my daughter because it covered all of her computer equipment, as well as her (all-too-expensive) books. My homeowners policy didn't treat the books quite as favorably.
No it doesn't. Separate insurance has to be purchased.
my insurance required me to buy a codicil policy which covered another temporary residence.unfortunately, it would not cover (within that policy) items acquired after the policy date without written notice of acquisition.i allowed my daughter to bring her x-box..it was stolen. The college had no theft coverage for dorm rooms.Students are responsible for maintaining adequate security as stated in the outlines to prevent theft. So, make sure if you do get coverage, it is inclusive of all possessions owned by the covered party.
My understanding that your homeowners insurance will cover stuff in dorm rooms, but you need to get an addition to the coverage. What is you deductible? Stuff might get stolen that is worth less than the deductible. Also, these days filing a claim is very dicey and could put you in a bad position when its time to renew the policy. Most colleges have a working relationship with an insurance company that specializes in covering college dorms and apartments. They usually send that info along with a lot things after the student has been accepted. You figure out how much your students stuff is worth and get insurance for that amount. It covers computers, electronic games, clothes, musical instruments, ipods, DVD players, TVs, refrigerators, microwaves, etc. That's the way I have always gone, not through my homeowners insurance.
