Homeowner or property insurance usually only covers fire, storm damage, and burglary. Water damage not from the sky or earth movement isn't covered. Flood insurance protects your property in case of a flood or landslide caused by water. State Farm There are entire books devoted to this subject . . . the "standard" homeowners policy is an HO-3 form, which, btw, is completely NOT available in several states including Texas. The coverage categories are: a. dwelling b. other structures c. contents d. loss of use e. medical payments f. liability. On an HO-3 form, these are packaged together, and you can't "pick & choose" which of the six coverages you get - you get them all. Flood is not covered under this form, but wind damage is. Earthquake is optional. No policy that I've ever seen covers termite damage. Your best bet is to contact an agent in your state, and discuss the options with them. If you want to know what perils are insured against under this form, you can do a yahoo search, and see the policy form online - it's 26 pages long. I'm not going to type that much.
