Will homeowners insurance cover an room that needs to be rewired due to a short?

Will homeowners insurance cover an room that needs to be rewired due to a short?

It doesn't cover the cost to fix the problem but it SHOULD cover the damage caused by the short - ie, any resulting fire or damage to electrical items.

It's NOT going to pay to upgrade (or modernize) vintage wiring. That's a maintenance issue. Source(s): agent, 20+ years
It wouldn't be worth it since it would probably cost less than your deductible.
Was the room damaged already ? Did you already know that the room needs to be rewired ?

The way insurance companies work ..... if there was damage to a room as a result of a short ..... if it was caused by faulty wiring they would probably pay to fix the room and its wiring.

But there is a risk ... if there is no damage yet and the insurance company deems your wiring is unsafe. ..... they may drop your coverage until the house is rewired and inspected. And that would be at your cost .....
it depends on what kind of policy you have, but it most likely wouldn't be worth paying the deductible. call your agent and discuss it with them, they should be able to tell you whether or not it will be worth filing a claim.
