Does homeowners insurance cover a theft away from home? |
I had a recent loss (FREAKING LOSER chick stole my camera, cell phone, and MP3 player) out of state while visiting my dad in the hospital during heart surgery. Will my homeowners policy cover it. I know...I could check my policy...but ya see... I am out of state with my dad in the hospital. The standard homeowners policy DOES cover theft of your items, anywhere in the world, subject to policy terms and conditions. Sometimes there are limitations on electronic items, and mysterious disappearance is NOT covered, but as you have the theft on tape, and I'm assuming a police report, that's not an issue. It IS subject to your homeowners deductible. Sorry about your dad, hope he's doing ok. Source(s): agent, 21+ years i'm a little confussed, did the freaking loser chick steal your stuff from your home? or from you when you were at your dads. Your deductible is probably more than the value of the items you mentioned. Good luck Common sense, immediately contact your insurance company tollfree hot-line and establish the claim-NOW You will have coverage for the theft but subject to policy limitations, deductible and depreciation hold back. Plus you run the risk of having your rates go up or getting dropped. Some homeowners companies will raise rates or drop you even for something where you did not contribute to the claim. Consider the value of the items stolen compared to your deductible , possible rate increases etc. |
