My bathtub is leaking into the basement. Is this something I should claim on my homeowners insurance? Yes. Especially if it's done a considerable amount of damage. And get it fixed asap. Yes..... and get it fixed before it rots the wood and turns into a big and expensive job.... Yes, and fix the problem as early as you can, before it get worst. it depends on your personal policy. it never hurts to call and ask. but i think that that is a small repair, if you do the claim, they will cover the cost, but you ensurence will go UP forever! . is better to live alone and save it for something more important IF IT CAUSED ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR WALLS , FLOOR OR ETC THAT ADDS UP TO MORE THAN YOUR DEDUCTIBLE YOU SHOULD, BUT IT PROBABLY WILL NOT PAY TO HAVE THE LEAK ITSELF FIXED. I've never heard of someone claiming a plumbing leak on homeowners insurance. Unless it it caused by an identifiable event (like a fire, or hurricane) as opposed to age/wear and tear, I don't think you can claim it. However, if the leak has caused significant damage to your basement, that is claimable. Even if you can/do claim it, you will still have to pay the deductable and your rates will probably go up. I would call your company, don't give your name or policy number (because sometimes just an inquiry can be grounds to raise rates) and ask if it is claimable and what type of rate increase would result. But do get it fixed ASAP, because it will only cause further damage if left as is. Good Luck. |
