Insurance on house going through probate.? |
Would like to know how to go about getting insurance on $400.000 house while it is in probate for about 6 months. Live in Los Angeles, California. Was the house insured by the deceased person? If so, that policy should remain in effect until the renewal at which time the company will likely nonrenew since the house would no longer be owner occupied. The insurance agent that insured the house should then put what is called a dwelling fire policy on the house in the name of the Estate. Once it goes through probate, then the fire policy can be cancelled and another policy would be written in the name(s) of the new owner(s). The policy will depend on how the house is used, primary, secondary, rented, etc. If it had no insurance on it, call your own agent & see if they can do anything for you. They may be able to write a dwelling fire policy, but may have trouble if it is vacant & if they have had no history with the property (as a company that insured it for the deceased owner would have). Good luck to you. Go to a local agent. They should be able to place it for you. You'll have to pay for a full year. If it's vacant, look for an agent that represents Foremost Insurance, it's the cheapest way to get vacant property coverage. You can find a foremost agent at www.foremost.com agent, 21+ years |
