Tax return needed if you have no taxable income? |
Should I still file a tax return if during the year 2006, I had no taxable refund? Does this mean I qualify for child income credits and things, despite no income during this year? Even if you had no taxable income, it is best to file a tax return to protect yourself if the IRS decides to audit you. If you file a return, they can only go back 3 years unless they can prove fraud. If you don't file a tax return, then there is no time limit that the IRS can audit you for the years that you did not file. nope.. no return needed You may have to.. look at this site to determine what your filing requirements are... http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq2-1.html... The IRS has income requirements. But depending on age and filing status you may qualify for earned income credit, child tax credits and the one time excise telephone tax credit. Those are all REFUNDABLE credits. The telephone credit is $30 for a single person and if you are over 25 years old you will qualify for earned income credit. So file a tax return at least for the thirty bucks! |
