How would eliminating the personal income tax improve the lives of the people?

YES! YES! YES! I think a national sales tax would be a better idea. That way the people who work under the table or get money from illegal activities would have to pay a tax when they buy that new car gold teeth.

i would do away with the IRS -- than every one would be subject to a federal sales tax -- this would capture all of the money that is made on the side and never reported to the IRS. i believe that across the board the lower wage earner would see more money at the end of the year and you would not have the cost of a branch of the government and the endless talk of tax cuts.
There would be several important effects. The first of which would be the resurgance of manufacturing in the US. This would mean more good paying jobs that are available here in the US. The second thing that it would do is eliminate disincentives for earning money. For example most retired people have a huge disincentive to work because it is taxed at such a high rate and may reduce their SSI. Similarly very wealthy people often forgo so opportunities because the taxes that they would have to pay to earn the additonal money make it less worth their while to do so.

Lastly, but most importantly, it would remove the governments involvement and policing of how we earn our living. How many people have been harassed by the IRS for BS reasons? Lots. Also, what right does the government have to know how the hell we earn our money? They don't.

I did think of another one, churches would be freed from the burden of censorship caused by the draconian tax laws.

Give more money to people to spend. This creates jobs and more money for more people to spend etc.... Great idea!!
Do you mean the Federal Income tax? States would be taxed as they please? Elimanting the Federal tax would eliminate Federal benefits. Americans have a hard enough time taking care of themselves. What incentive would they have to save? Can Americans eliminate the things that cause us to be dependant upon the Federal government? What about our Armed services? Who will take care of our Veterans? What tax will pay the people who lobby for the benefits that our states receive? Better question - what amount of tax is enough to keep our Country profitable? Who, being elected, can buck the system and do what is right for our Country!!!! Checks & Balances....Yeah right!!!
