Do you have to pay income taxes on spousal support that you receive? |
Do you have to pay income taxes on spousal support that you receive? If you are divorced and receiving alimony the other answers are good. If you are not yet divorced and are receiving payments from your spouse, these payments are not taxable to you or deductible to the other spouse. Transfers between spouses are not taxable events.Check with an accountant. But as I understand it, alimony is taxable as income. Child support is not.
