Voters in 98% of School Districts Rejected Dem Governor Rendell Trying to Shift Property Taxes to Income Tax!! |
Dem Governor Rendell of Pennsylvania got a sound defeat as Voters in 98% of school districts refused to pay higher income taxes in exchange for lower property taxes. Voters refused to accept a "great idea" that would NOT reduce overall taxes. The Governor tried to get people to pay higher income taxes in exchange for lower property taxes. There were NO SAVINGS. Why would someone as "smart" as Rendell come up with and push an idea that ended up being rejected by the citizens of PA in 98% of school districts? Was it a joke to not really cut spending somehow? I was with you until you stated it would give non workers property tax relief. How many non workers do you know that own property? Also your link was obviously one sided and did not explain the proposal. So, it turns out to be just another radical Democrat bashing with no substance. Nice try, radical. Property taxes are one of the worst forms of taxation. Further, this money is collected by inept and corrupt local governments, who arbitrarily set millage rates, often taxing folks out of their homes... Not to mention, isn't it a complete replication of services, and hence a major waste of tax dollars having discrete local entities collect and administer taxes, when the entire process could be streamlined to the state level? I'm confused. Isn't it the republicans who bemoan how unfair property taxes are to the land rich/cash poor, like family farms or seniors? It's not like the "welfare queens" own a lot of property to pay taxes on. Sure does look like she blew it or at least underestimated the ability of the resolutions opponents to drum up support. |
