Do I have to pay federal income taxes if I am a single person who made less than $3000 last year?

When is the breakoff for having to pay income taxes or not, in terms of wages?

You will not have to pay income tax, but if the $3,000 was from self-employment (for instance if you got a 1099MISC rather than a W-2) you will have SE tax to pay at 15.3% of your "1099" income. You don't have to pay, but if any tax was withheld you still have to file. After all, you want all that money back.
file if want any withholding returned as refund. also, if you over age 26 or so, might be eligible for earned income credit even without kids
