The question assumes that the asker did not make a personal copy of his tax forms and e-filed without printing out a copy of the form. This is a plausible scenario and posts #3 and #4 wouldn't apply. call the irs. they have a toll-free number. i believe that they should give you a copy for free. You look in your desk for your file folder that's marked "Federal Taxes", which is where you filed the photocopy you made before you mailed the original. The tax transcript should have all the information that was on your tax return. If your tax returns were prepared by a professional, you should be able to get a copy from the preparer. If you need copies of your W-2s, you can request them from your former employer My law clients frequently need to provide tax returns for various reasons, and to my knowledge, they cannot order a copy of the actual tax return from the IRS, but for most purposes, a tax transcript will suffice.
