The basis is the 16th Amendment to the Constitution, and the tax laws derived from that have been passed by successive republican and democratic governments. " Yes. Yes. Taxes are allowed by the 16th (not 14th, that applies the 5th amend due process and equal protection to the states). There are federal crimes for not paying your taxes in the US Code. So, while there is nothing that says "you will pay your taxes" there are statutes that proscribe the penalities for tax evasion, lying, cheating, etc. Try 26 USC 搂 7201 for tax evasion and keep reading past that for more. Tax protesters can be prosecuted under this statute too. How many times can this question be asked and answered? If you believe there is no law stating you have to pay taxes, don't pay them.
