Who gets to write off the house when filing income taxes after a divorce? |
The house is in both names. I live in it with the kids and make the house payment. My husband gives us support payments. Do I get to write it off and he writes off his support payments or does he write off the house too because he's paying me support? Is it the same if your seperated as it is after divorced? The person who actually lives in the house gets the write off Do you think it might be prudent to check with a real tax expert instead of, uh, here? . u do!! u live in it the kids are in it..u make the house payment its your write off.. If you are making the mortgage payments, you get to write it off. Why is your ex still on the deed? It's an agreement that will be in your divorce paper's. If your paying the mortgage then you claim it... makes sure it's spelled out... |
